European Portuguese [08 Nov 2011|12:58pm]

Hello :)

My problem is simple, so I'll keep this post short: I'm Italian, and I need help with practising and speaking my European Portuguese. I'm already having lessons with Portuguese teachers, of course, but I really need to speak more on my own.

It's been quite hard to find anything really useful on the Internet because I keep ending up on Brazilian Portuguese things, so I was wondering if there are any European Portuguese speakers here that could point me to some active Portuguese community (even outside livejournal), or even better if there are people interested in some Skype language exchange.

Please let me know!

Want to learn Japanese? [27 May 2011|03:31am]

[ mood | cheerful ]

I'm learning Japanese myself and I thought that maybe some of you guys might want to as well. (:

I'm using LJ as a way to document everything I'm learning, so feel free to poke around my entries and maybe you might be able to pick something up yourself! I'm learning via a site called Textfugu, which is really amazing and I urge you all to check it out. It's got free lessons but it DOES have a cost of 120USD (or 20USD monthly) after a few free lessons. However, I paid the fee and am going to be sharing what I learn as I go along, if you truly can't afford it.

Hey folks! :)

I'm a student at McGill University in Montreal, majoring in Psychology, minoring in Linguistics. For this term I’m doing a project on ... well, I wish I could tell you but that would ruin the purpose of my study. But I'll tell you later in case you're interested.
That's why I'm looking for English/German bilinguals*, English/French bilinguals*  and German or French natives acquiring English as a second language.

Details and link to surveyCollapse )

New comm! [14 Jan 2010|06:34pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

*Let me know if this isn't allowed*

I recently started up a LJ-comm for practicing different languages in the form of short (200 or so words), entirely random posts in whatever language you may be learning and having others more fluent in that language to either correct you or just comment on your posts. It's really quite open, so you can talk about anything you want and you can write in whatever language you want! However, I'm looking for some more members, so if you're either a) wanting to practice a language you're learning or b) a native or fluent in a language that's not English, I really, really encourage to visit. I'm especially looking for people fluent in German, French, and anyone with any knowledge of Japanese (I have posters, and not anyone to really help them out ^^).

So please, come and take a look here: linguafrancka? Thank you!

Fresh meat [08 Jul 2009|07:15pm]
Heya, I'm new to this community and wanted to first correct a wrong sentence on your profile and second write a bit about me.

You asked for a correction, here you go ^^
From your community-profile:
»Deutsch:* Diese Gemeinschaft wurde für jeder gebildet, das versucht, eine Fremdsprache zu erlernen. Bitte, stellen Sie gern irgenwelche Frage, die Sie über der Sprache haben.«
The correct and better-sounding version would be:
Diese Gemeinschaft wurde für all jene gegründet die eine Fremdsprache erlernen wollen. Wenn ihr Fragen zu den Sprachen dieser Welt habt könnt ihr sie hier gerne stellen.

As you can see German is my mothertongue and I learned English at school.
Actually I'm learning Norwegian, and after I finished that I want to learn Icelandic and Old Norse.

Yeah, that's it... If you want to know more about me please have a look at my website or message me (:
Or maybe more later on...
Until then, take care.

I'm just starting to learn french and decided to make an lj just for this goal and was wondering if there were any others learning french who would like to be lj friends who have kind of similar journals? I think maybe it would be a good way to learn french to have a journal that's just about that, a place to put things that I learned that day, problems I'm having, talk with others about learning french, and just to support one another while we learn french.

Thank you a lot for your help :)

Berber [08 Dec 2008|07:12pm]

Does anybody here know any Berber varieties? I am supposed to complete a take-home exam on Berber linguistics and some of the questions seem downright impossible. It is very, very linguistically centered, but even if you don't actually know anything about linguistics but know some Berber language, it might help me a lot. *fingers crossed* It's not actually the most spoken language outside it's own areas but God knows French linguistics love to research it...

[29 Nov 2008|12:04pm]

[ mood | annoyed ]

I'm fairly sure I kind of know what this means, but would be great if someone translated it for me;

'La voyelle est un élément morphologique et uniquement morphologique.'

And then I've pretty much no idea of the following;

'La courbe de l'intonation varie avec le contenu sémantique et affectif, mais sans être jamais interrompue. Comme l'opposition d'état, l'opposition d'intonation renseigne donc sur le degré de cohésion de l'énoncé.'

'L'élément qui, dans tout énouncé non injonctif et non mutilé, accompagne nécessairement le prédicat."

I'm fed up with French linguistics quoting their French collegues in French in texts that are written otherwise in English.

Hi guys!

I'm new to the community and I'm not sure if this is allowed or not but I'll ask anyway... I want to learn to speak Italian and I was hoping you guys could point me in the direction of mp3's I could put on my iPod. I think that's the easiest way to do it since I can listen to it on my way to and from work.

Any help is appreciated!
